Sarmentinho White is produced in the Bairrada region of central Portugal, an area influenced by Atlantic breezes and limestone-rich soils that favour fresh, aromatic white wines. These conditions help preserve natural acidity in the grapes, allowing the wine to maintain balance and vibrancy typical of the region’s white varieties.

The grapes are fully destemmed before a short cold maceration lasting approximately six to eight hours. This process allows gentle extraction of aromatic compounds from the skins while maintaining freshness and purity in the must before fermentation begins.

Alcoholic fermentation then takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of around 14°C and continues for approximately eighteen days. The use of stainless steel helps preserve the natural expression of the grapes while maintaining clarity and stability before the wine is prepared for bottling.

The history behind Casa de Sarmento goes back to the year of 1980, when a restaurant specialised in "Suckling Pig Roast" was born in the heart of the Bairrada Demarcated Region. In the next twelve years a chain of restaurants was implemented.

With subsequent acquisitions of three properties, one in Avis, the other in Castelo de Vide, both located in the Alentejo and the third in Mealhada, Bairrada, Casa de Sarmento could thus be assumed as self-sufficient in agricultural, livestock and quality wines production.

Up to 2005, the wines of Casa de Sarmento were exclusively marketed in the restaurant chain, but from then on, 600 000 bottles a year were introduced in external and foreign markets. Since it embarked on this adventure, the wines of the Casa de Sarmento won prizes and medals in various competitions.

Eight gold medals, fourteen silver and nine bronze, which further highlight the quality of the excellent wines that Portugal has been producing in these last few years.

You're Overpaying for French Wine Because You Don't Know About Portugal

Here's what other wine producing countries don't want you to know:

Portugal makes wines just as good, sometimes better, for half the price. Everyone’s been trained to worship the same names: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Napa, Tuscany. But here’s the uncomfortable truth those wine giants don’t want you to hear:

Portugal is making wines just as exceptional, and often better, for a fraction of the price.

And no, this isn’t a budget alternative. It’s a massive blind spot in the wine world. While the rest of the planet keeps pumping out the same 12 internationally famous grape varieties - Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay - Portugal has been doing something radically different.

They’ve quietly preserved more than 250 indigenous grapes you can’t find anywhere else on Earth.

Not copies. Not variations. Completely unique varieties with flavours, aromas, and textures you’ve literally never tasted before.

That £80 Cabernet you just splurged on? Portugal has wines made from grapes you’ve never even heard of… and they’ll absolutely stun you, for £20–£30.

Imagine discovering flavours that feel familiar and completely new.

Imagine drinking wine that feels like a secret... because hardly anyone else knows about it yet.

Delivery times are estimates and may occasionally vary due to weather conditions, peak periods or courier delays.

Yes, you can track your order here.

Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email confirming shipment along with your tracking number so you can follow your delivery online. If you provide a mobile number at checkout, you may also receive SMS updates from the courier.

On the day of delivery, APC will send a notification confirming your parcel is out for delivery. Please note that this message confirms the parcel has left the depot and is scheduled for delivery that day. It does not necessarily mean the driver is heading to you immediately. Please refer to the estimated delivery window provided.

After receiving your delivery notification, you can manage your delivery directly with the courier. This may include:
- Leaving delivery instructions
- Requesting delivery to a neighbour
- Rearranging the delivery date

Please note that instructions such as leaving the parcel outside the front door or in a safe place are not permitted. As we sell alcohol, all deliveries are age restricted and must be received in person.

If delivery is unsuccessful, the courier will normally attempt delivery twice before the parcel is returned to us.

What if there’s no one at home?

Please note that deliveries are made throughout the day. We recommend choosing a delivery address where someone is likely to be available to receive the order.

You will receive advance notification from the courier confirming your delivery date, followed by a delivery window on the day itself. This allows you to plan accordingly or rearrange the delivery if needed.

If you are not usually at home during the day, you may wish to use an alternative address, such as your workplace, a family member’s home or a trusted neighbour.
