Ruby in colour with delicate violet hues, this organic (bio) vegan wine opens with expressive aromas of ripe red fruits - cherry, blackberry and cassis - gently intertwined with soft balsamic notes that rise invitingly from the glass.

On the palate it reveals smooth, well-integrated tannins and wonderful balance. Elegant and harmonious, the wine unfolds with refined character before leading to a long and satisfying finish.

An evocative Alentejo red with a touch of rustic charm, perfect alongside cheeses, roasted dishes and red meats.

Pouca Roupa Vegan 2023 is an organic (bio) and vegan red wine from the Alentejo region of Portugal, produced from a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro.

The grapes undergo low-temperature pre-fermentative maceration, a process that gently extracts colour and aromatic compounds from the skins before fermentation begins. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel vats with strict temperature control, allowing the winemaker to preserve the purity of fruit and maintain freshness.

After fermentation, the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks with controlled micro-oxygenation. This technique slowly introduces very small amounts of oxygen, helping to soften the tannins and stabilise the colour while maintaining the wine’s vibrant fruit character.

The result is a balanced and approachable Alentejo red, combining bright fruit expression with smooth texture and refined structure.

Founded by renowned Portuguese winemaker João Portugal Ramos, the Pouca Roupa wines reflect the spirit and character of the Alentejo, one of Portugal’s most celebrated wine regions. João Portugal Ramos has played a major role in shaping modern Portuguese winemaking, combining deep respect for traditional grape varieties with contemporary viticultural and winemaking techniques.

The Pouca Roupa range was created to express the vibrant fruit and approachable style that Alentejo is known for. Produced from carefully selected vineyards, the wines highlight native Portuguese grape varieties while maintaining freshness, balance and authenticity.

Sustainability is central to the philosophy of the estate. The vineyards are cultivated under organic (bio) farming practices, and the wines are vegan friendly, produced without the use of animal-derived fining agents. This commitment to responsible viticulture helps preserve the natural character of the grapes and the surrounding landscape.

Today, João Portugal Ramos wines are enjoyed around the world and are recognised for their consistency, accessibility and strong regional identity, making them an excellent introduction to the wines of Alentejo.

You're Overpaying for French Wine Because You Don't Know About Portugal

Here's what other wine producing countries don't want you to know:

Portugal makes wines just as good, sometimes better, for half the price. Everyone’s been trained to worship the same names: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Napa, Tuscany. But here’s the uncomfortable truth those wine giants don’t want you to hear:

Portugal is making wines just as exceptional, and often better, for a fraction of the price.

And no, this isn’t a budget alternative. It’s a massive blind spot in the wine world. While the rest of the planet keeps pumping out the same 12 internationally famous grape varieties - Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay - Portugal has been doing something radically different.

They’ve quietly preserved more than 250 indigenous grapes you can’t find anywhere else on Earth.

Not copies. Not variations. Completely unique varieties with flavours, aromas, and textures you’ve literally never tasted before.

That £80 Cabernet you just splurged on? Portugal has wines made from grapes you’ve never even heard of… and they’ll absolutely stun you, for £20–£30.

Imagine discovering flavours that feel familiar and completely new.

Imagine drinking wine that feels like a secret... because hardly anyone else knows about it yet.
