Collection: Red: Light & Fruity

Portugal’s windy Atlantic coast is best known for its light, fresh and fruity white wines, but many people do not realise that the same regions also produce reds with the same bright and refreshing character. In the cool and often rainy Vinho Verde region of the northwest, red wines are light, tangy and usually around eleven percent alcohol. Outside Portugal it is still a well-kept secret that around forty percent of all Vinho Verde is red.

When to drink & Food pairings:

Red Vinho Verde is a wonderful companion to simple, flavourful food. It pairs beautifully with freshly grilled sardines, richer meats, offal dishes and traditional Portuguese charcuterie, making it an ideal choice for relaxed everyday meals. You will often find it in the same tall and slender bottles used for white Vinho Verde. If you come across one, it is definitely worth trying, and if you cannot find it nearby, it may be a good excuse for a visit to the northwest coast of Portugal.
