Taboadella Encruzado Reserva is produced in the Dão region of central Portugal, an area known for its granitic soils and higher altitude vineyards. The Taboadella estate is located in a sheltered valley where the vineyards grow on ancient metamorphosed granite, conditions that favour slow ripening and help preserve the natural acidity and structure characteristic of wines from this region.

The wine is made from Encruzado, also known locally as Salgueirinho, an indigenous grape variety considered one of the most important white varieties of the Dão. The delicate growth cycle of Encruzado requires careful vineyard management throughout the vegetative period to ensure balanced ripening and healthy fruit.

After harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented under controlled conditions to preserve the purity of the variety. Part of the wine is then matured to enhance structure and texture, allowing the distinctive character of Encruzado and the mineral influence of the granite soils to express themselves before bottling.

The connection of the Amorim family to wine dates back to 1870, through its first business in the production of cork stoppers for the Port Wine Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. Today it is one of the most prominent family groups in Portugal, extending its business in several countries of the world in different sectors of activity.
Since 1999, the fourth generation has been developing the wine business through the hands of Luisa Amorim, working in estates of excellence where the vine and wine have ancestral roots and a deep cultural sense: in the Douro, in Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo and now in Dão, in Taboadella, creating wines with an extraordinary character, coming from unique places."

You're Overpaying for French Wine Because You Don't Know About Portugal

Here's what other wine producing countries don't want you to know:

Portugal makes wines just as good, sometimes better, for half the price. Everyone’s been trained to worship the same names: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Napa, Tuscany. But here’s the uncomfortable truth those wine giants don’t want you to hear:

Portugal is making wines just as exceptional, and often better, for a fraction of the price.

And no, this isn’t a budget alternative. It’s a massive blind spot in the wine world. While the rest of the planet keeps pumping out the same 12 internationally famous grape varieties - Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay - Portugal has been doing something radically different.

They’ve quietly preserved more than 250 indigenous grapes you can’t find anywhere else on Earth.

Not copies. Not variations. Completely unique varieties with flavours, aromas, and textures you’ve literally never tasted before.

That £80 Cabernet you just splurged on? Portugal has wines made from grapes you’ve never even heard of… and they’ll absolutely stun you, for £20–£30.

Imagine discovering flavours that feel familiar and completely new.

Imagine drinking wine that feels like a secret... because hardly anyone else knows about it yet.

Still Drinking the Same 5 Grapes? You’re Missing the Magic of Wine

Cabernet. Merlot. Pinot Noir. Chardonnay. Sauvignon Blanc.

Congratulations, you drink wine like everyone else. Meanwhile, Portugal has 250+ indigenous grape varieties that literally don't grow anywhere else on Earth. Grapes with actual terroir.

Actual uniqueness. Actual stories that aren't just marketing.

And here's the part that'll piss off your wine snob friends: they're better quality for the price than almost anything coming out of Napa.

Port is what Portugal is famous for. But if that's all you know, you're missing the entire country.

Imagine drinking wine that feels like a secret... because hardly anyone else knows about it yet.
