Terras de Lava Terroir Vulcânico is produced in the Azores archipelago, a remote Atlantic wine region shaped by volcanic soils and strong maritime influence. The vineyards grow on basaltic terrain exposed to ocean winds and saline air, conditions that contribute to the distinctive mineral character associated with wines from these volcanic islands.

The wine is made from a blend of indigenous grape varieties from the Azores (70%) and various European grape varieties (30%). This combination reflects both the traditional viticulture of the islands and a modern approach to blending that helps achieve balance and structure.

After careful grape selection, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15°C. The wine then ages on its fine lees for four months, allowing additional texture and stability to develop before the wine is clarified and bottled.

The Azores, a remote archipelago of nine islands in the Atlantic Ocean, lie midway between Europe and North America. Around 1,000 miles from mainland Portugal, they are known for dramatic landscapes of volcanic peaks, lush greenery, and deep blue waters. Viticulture began here in the 15th century, with vineyards carved from black basalt stone known as “biscoitos,” shaped into protective walls called “currais.” These UNESCO-listed vineyards harness the sun’s warmth while shielding vines from wind and salt spray. Indigenous varieties such as Verdelho, Arinto dos Açores, and Terrantez thrive in this unique environment.

Founded in 1949, Pico Wines is the Azores’ oldest and largest producer, working with over 250 local growers. Combining tradition with modern expertise, they craft wines defined by salinity, freshness, and vibrant acidity. Pico produces over 80% of Azorean wine, and each bottle captures the island’s volcanic character and Atlantic influence.

You're Overpaying for French Wine Because You Don't Know About Portugal

Here's what other wine producing countries don't want you to know:

Portugal makes wines just as good, sometimes better, for half the price. Everyone’s been trained to worship the same names: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Napa, Tuscany. But here’s the uncomfortable truth those wine giants don’t want you to hear:

Portugal is making wines just as exceptional, and often better, for a fraction of the price.

And no, this isn’t a budget alternative. It’s a massive blind spot in the wine world. While the rest of the planet keeps pumping out the same 12 internationally famous grape varieties - Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay - Portugal has been doing something radically different.

They’ve quietly preserved more than 250 indigenous grapes you can’t find anywhere else on Earth.

Not copies. Not variations. Completely unique varieties with flavours, aromas, and textures you’ve literally never tasted before.

That £80 Cabernet you just splurged on? Portugal has wines made from grapes you’ve never even heard of… and they’ll absolutely stun you, for £20–£30.

Imagine discovering flavours that feel familiar and completely new.

Imagine drinking wine that feels like a secret... because hardly anyone else knows about it yet.

Yes, you can track your order here.

Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email confirming shipment along with your tracking number so you can follow your delivery online. If you provide a mobile number at checkout, you may also receive SMS updates from the courier.

On the day of delivery, APC will send a notification confirming your parcel is out for delivery. Please note that this message confirms the parcel has left the depot and is scheduled for delivery that day. It does not necessarily mean the driver is heading to you immediately. Please refer to the estimated delivery window provided.

After receiving your delivery notification, you can manage your delivery directly with the courier. This may include:
- Leaving delivery instructions
- Requesting delivery to a neighbour
- Rearranging the delivery date

Please note that instructions such as leaving the parcel outside the front door or in a safe place are not permitted. As we sell alcohol, all deliveries are age restricted and must be received in person.

If delivery is unsuccessful, the courier will normally attempt delivery twice before the parcel is returned to us.

What if there’s no one at home?

Please note that deliveries are made throughout the day. We recommend choosing a delivery address where someone is likely to be available to receive the order.

You will receive advance notification from the courier confirming your delivery date, followed by a delivery window on the day itself. This allows you to plan accordingly or rearrange the delivery if needed.

If you are not usually at home during the day, you may wish to use an alternative address, such as your workplace, a family member’s home or a trusted neighbour.
