The producer, tasting note published in 05/10/2022

Yellow citrine color and bright appearance. Delicate aroma, with characteristic notes of the unmistakable Rabigato grape variety. On the palate, it surprises with remarkable acidity, imparted by the Viosinho grape variety, a marked structure, creamy texture, and a delicate retronasal aroma, giving it a long and attractive finish.

About this Winery

J. Carvalho Family Estates was born at Quinta dos Termos, which serves as its headquarters, and is a historic producer in Beira Interior since 1945. Maintaining the tradition of a family home and combining sustainable production focused on traditional grape varieties, it currently owns three estates.

Quinta dos Termos: with approximately 60 hectares of vineyards planted in granitic soils at an average altitude of 500 meters. It cultivates 18 red grape varieties, such as Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Rufete, Jaen, Tinta Roriz, Marufo, Tinto Cão, Alfrocheiro, Baga, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, and 6 white grape varieties, such as Fonte Cal, Síria, Arinto, Verdelho, and Riesling.

Quinta do Pocinho: Located in the village of Pocinho, in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Quinta do Pocinho is a historic property in Douro Superior. It has about 22 hectares of vineyards on terraces and elevated vineyards, between altitudes of 200 and 350 meters. The predominant grape varieties on this property are the reds Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão, and Tinta Roriz, and the whites Rabigato and Viosinho, with some old vines with a mixture of dozens of other grape varieties, resulting in wines that express the telluric strength of the place. The landscape at Alto do Pocinho is strongly marked by the Douro River and the imposing Vale da Veiga.

Herdade do Lousial: Herdade do Lousial emerged from the desire to produce wines in Beira Baixa, south of Serra da Gardunha, and was integrated into the Quinta dos Termos family in 2015. Located at the transition from mountains to plains in the Castelo Branco countryside, the estate has low-fertility but deep soils, providing the ideal environment for producing high-quality grapes. Designed from scratch, this property has implemented an innovative precision viticulture system over approximately 32 hectares of vineyards, including red grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Rufete, Tinta Roriz, Syrah, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, and white varieties like Síria, Callum, Fonte Cal, Riesling, among others."
