About this Wine

This fresh white wine comes from the Douro Valley, in the north of Portugal. It is produced from grapes grown in the cooler and higher vineyards, where the maturation of white grapes can be more uniform and homogeneous. The winemakers aim for a balanced extraction of flavour. The result is an aromatic and zesty wine, showing tropical fruit and a refreshing, crisp acidity. Made by the Symington family, producers in the Douro since the 19th century. Grapes from Quinta da Fonte Branca near Lamego and selected producers in the Alijó and Favaios areas. Vinification took place in the Symington family's modern winemaking facilities at Quinta do Sol, which is equipped with state-of-the-art winemaking technology. The grapes were gently crushed after destemming, and some skin contact followed in order to extract desirable aromatic compounds. Fermentation was initiated in stainless steel vats (20 tonnes capacity) at a controlled temperature of 14-15ºC, for maximum retention of the primary aromas. 5 months in stainless steel vats with minimum contact with oxygen, in order to retain all the aromatic freshness of the wine.

About this Winery

There is a natural affinity between wine and family. Long-term vision and commitment through many generations are essential for the success of a family wine company. The Symington family, with Scottish, English and Portuguese ancestry has been present in the Douro for five generations — since 1882 — and through the current generation’s great grandmother, the family’s links to the wines of the Douro span 14 generations, to the mid-17th century and to the very beginnings of the history of Port.

I lectured in Portugal during the ‘70’s, ‘80’s and ‘90’s.
‘ The Vinho verdhe from Moncao was an absolute favourite which I enjoyed greatly in the Fado houses of Alfama . The Muralhas is not only a nostalgic reminder of good friends but a reminder of the guality and extreme drinkability of one of the great historic wines of Portugal.
