About this Wine

The first harvest of Monte Velho dates back to 1991 and was first released to the market in 1992, at the time priced at 200 escudos. Inspired by the firstborn Esporão Reserva, Monte Velho revolutionized daily wine consumption, bringing a quality wine to the table at an affordable price. After 30 years, the journey of this brand is marked by significant evolution. In 2020, over 7 million and 400 thousand bottles of Monte Velho were sold in more than 50 countries, and since 2013, this Alentejo region has been produced entirely in integrated production mode.

The history of Monte Velho is closely linked to the territory from which it originates, making it a distinctly Alentejo wine due to its diversity of grape varieties and profile. The wines are the responsibility of the team led by Sandra Alves, resulting from the combination of nature and winemaking tradition, combined with the experience and innovation that characterize Esporão.

The agricultural year of 2023 was hot and dry. The harvest was early and concentrated in a few weeks, with optimal ripening of various grape varieties quickly achieved, resulting in aromatic, intense wines with great complexity.
Vinification: Mechanical harvesting, grape cooling, vacuum pressing, cold settling of the must, and fermentation at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks for 15 days.

A wine to be enjoyed young, in day-to-day life.
