About this Winery
The Alentejo is the birthplace of Abegoaria and home to its greatest diversity of projects. Granja Amareleja represents tradition and quality on the left bank of the Guadiana, while Amareleza Vinhos expresses the bold spirit of winemaker José Piteira, a master of ancestral talha winemaking. Herdade da Madeira Velha is a benchmark for Évoramonte wines.
In Vidigueira, one of the Alentejo’s most emblematic sub-regions, we craft wines of strong character. Newer projects include Herdade do Gamito and the 500-hectare Herdade Abegoaria dos Frades in Alqueva, set to produce some of our finest wines.
Our commitment to restoring dignity to genuinely Portuguese products drives us across the country, developing wines that honor each region’s identity. Among our leading brands are Escadas Infinitas, Portal de São Brás, Encostas de Lisboa, and Megafone, each expressing a distinctive terroir and the same dedication to quality.
In 2021, we acquired Vidigal Wines, operating in nearly 40 countries with highly successful global brands. This strengthened Abegoaria’s reach across Portugal and consolidated its diversification strategy in international markets.
In 2022, we launched Eruptio in the fine wine category, our first project in the islands. Produced on Pico (Azores), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, these wines embody the pure essence of volcanic, Atlantic terroir.
Portugal’s diversity - in landscape, wines, gastronomy, and traditions - is an endless treasure. Abegoaria works with local communities to preserve heritage, honor authenticity, and create experiences with a true sense of origin. To know our wines is to know the places and people behind them, beautiful in their diversity and distinctiveness.
