About this Wine

The grapes come from vineyards located in a terroir of excellence, respectively the Minho river valley and the Lima river valley, in soils of granite origin. Vinification: Grapes are harvested manually for small capacity boxes. After pressing, the must obtained is decanted for 48 hours, followed by fermentation at controlled temperature using pre-selected yeasts. Bottling takes place after the wine has stabilized, followed by a bottle aging.

Soalheiro is the first Alvarinho brand in the northern point of Portugal named Melgaço and one of the first Portuguese producers of Alvarinho. Here the Alvarinho is special, the land is protected by a range of mountains that create conditions of rainfall, temperature and sunshine hours necessary for the best ripening of the grapes. I lectured in Portugal during the ‘70’s, ‘80’s and ‘90’s.
‘ The Vinho verdhe from Moncao was an absolute favourite which I enjoyed greatly in the Fado houses of Alfama . The Muralhas is not only a nostalgic reminder of good friends but a reminder of the guality and extreme drinkability of one of the great historic wines of Portugal.
