The producer, tasting note published in 12/12/2022
Garnet red color. Aroma of wild berries with vegetal notes. On the palate, it is balanced with lively acidity and soft tannins, providing a long finish.

About this Wine
Quinta do Ferro has been a pioneer since its foundation in 1999, being the first winery in the region to be built and designed from the ground up for sparkling wine production. It remains a benchmark producer of sparkling wine in the Vinho Verde region.
The vineyard is under a special microclimate and on granitic soil with shale outcrops; located at 400 meters above sea level and named "riverbank vineyard," it is from here that the grapes are harvested for Quinta do Ferro Sparkling Red.
Vinification and Ageing: The selected grapes are hand-harvested in 12 kg crates, destemmed, and crushed in a small lagar. After foot treading, the must is in contact with the skins for 24 hours. Alcoholic fermentation takes place for approximately 12 days, with foot treading and temperature control. Natural stabilization with a minimum of 12 months on fine lees. Second fermentation in the bottle according to the Classic Method. Minimum ageing in the cellar for 12 months.
Gastronomy: Served between 8/10°C with complex dishes and fatty meats (e.g., suckling pig). Good to pair with pasta and pizzas.

About this Winery
At Quinta do Ferro, the focus has been on native grape varieties, producing only Portuguese grapes. These include Avesso, a native grape of Gestaçô Baião, a unique and original white grape with a strong and complex personality; Arinto, a white grape planted throughout the country, aromatic, fresh, with good acidity and minerality; and finally, a grape often misunderstood, vinhão, a red and teinturier grape, with a strong character, mainly planted in the northern part of the country, which, due to the characteristics of the Quinta's terroir, loses its typical roughness and gains elegance and smoothness.
The two main vineyards have a special microclimate and are on granitic soil, which gives them minerality, salinity, and a vegetal touch. One vineyard is located at almost 400 meters above sea level, known as the riverside vineyard; the other is at over 600 meters above sea level, considered the mountain vineyard. This is the main vineyard, the mountain one, and it is from here that the grapes for the sparkling wine are harvested.
Quinta do Ferro has received awards nationally and internationally and has received good reviews from major opinion makers worldwide, such as Robert Parker and Sarah Ahmed.
Let customers speak for us
from 6 reviewsI lectured in Portugal during the ‘70’s, ‘80’s and ‘90’s.
‘ The Vinho verdhe from Moncao was an absolute favourite which I enjoyed greatly in the Fado houses of Alfama . The Muralhas is not only a nostalgic reminder of good friends but a reminder of the guality and extreme drinkability of one of the great historic wines of Portugal.

A safe and quick delivery. The wine is delicious, perfect as a light drink at lunch or with cheese or fish. Really enjoyed it! Will buy more.

Very impressed with the quality of my order, both the content inside the bottles and the delivery. Will be ordering again for sure.

This excellent wine was on the menu at Crossroads Kitchen and we loved it there. I have since had three bottles and so pleased with it, such good quality for the price!

Those delightful apricot, peach, citrus and floral notes are satisfyingly intense in the flavour. A delicious wine. I’ve ordered another bottle.
